Genesee River Middle Falls
The Genesee River, passing through Letchworth State Park, creates three beautiful water falls: the upper, middle and lower falls. Shown here is the middle falls. One can understand why this land, not far from the Land of Cumorah, is referred to in Book of Mormon accounts as being a "land of many waters, rivers, and fountains."
Northern Cayuga Lak
Cayuga Lake is the largest of the Finger Lakes, and it lies to the east of the largest lakes, thus making it a good candidate for the East Sea spoken of in Book of Mormon accounts. At the southern extremity of this lake may have once been located the ancient city of Moroni. To the north of Moroni was the city of Lehi. This picture is of lands lying in the north of Cayuga Lake, perhaps where the ancient city of Lehi once existed, "in the north, by the borders of the seashore."
Northward From Letchworth
This view of the Genesee River, as it makes its way through Letchworth State Park, offers a view of lands lying to the north, seen through the channel cut by the river. These fertile farmlands to the north may have once been part of the ancient land of Zarahemla. In this area in Nephite times, travel to and from the lands of Zarahemla and Nephi may have involved paths that followed the natural course of the river. Crossing the river here would have meant scaling very high and sheer cliffs that run through most of the 20 miles through Letchworth State Park.
Hill Cumorah
A painting derived from a photograph of Hill Cumorah, dated in the 1920s. Located about 25 miles south of a Sea East (Lake Ontario), the Hill Cumorah (on Route 21) can be seen as the place where both the Jaredite and the Nephite armies fought their last battles. The Hill Cumorah can be seen as the starting place from which to identify the geography of The Book of Mormon.
